3:09 am - CEREUS THIS TIME!
So, I thought I'd post some non GISH related info...

My next game, Cereus Pea-Shy, has begun its full makeover. As some of you remember Pea-Shy was a game I was working on with Tom of Newgrounds.com, but it was canceled half way through because Tom started work on his game Alien Hominid, and I went on to make GISH. So a little over a year later Pea-Shy is back with a whole new look. My animation skills have vastly improved over the past year and with the help of Rift, the GOD of flash games, we intend to finish what I started and bust out the best flash game you will ever play! I guarantee!

Here's a comparison shot of the old Pea-Shy Vs the new one.

An example of the animation improvement.

Pea-Shy is set for a winter release.

6:35 pm - GISH REVIEW #1

When it comes to my hard earned cash, they (independent and published developers) all compete on the same table as far as I'm concerned. Gish not only stepped up to the table, but did a little dance and let me wave some dollar bills suggestively.

...the level of control and interaction with the environment is truly phenomenal.

...Gish has surpassed my expectations and in fact turned out to be the most enjoyable and creative platform game I've played in the past years. On any system. Even beating the superb Viewtiful Joe on my list.

-gamerswithjobs.com

Just a few kind words from Gish's 1st official review at Gamerswithjobs.com.

Gish is kicking major ass, and thanks to you guys the word is slowly getting around. I put 6 months of my life into this game, and it feels really good to hear that people are enjoying it as much as i am. again thanks to the fans and all who supported me, spread the word bitches!

Ps: heres a little animated gif of someone clearing one of the hardest collection levels in gish, thanks to americana for finding it for me :)

At long last Chronic Logic has released it's physics based side scroller Gish. This 2d adventure game combines the latest and greatest game technology with the classic fun of an old fashion console game. Featuring Chronic Logic's renowned physics (Pontifex and Bridge Construction Set), real-time lighting, unique game play, and brilliantly stylized art, Gish promises to be like nothing you have ever played. Chronic Logic plans to release a free demo for Gish in the next few weeks. Check out screenshots and a gameplay trailer at http://www.chroniclogic.com/gish.htm. Here is what people are saying about Gish:

"You guys at chroniclogic know what is fun, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise ;D"

4:57 am - GISH trailer
The slightly anticipated release of Chronic Logic’s IGF award losing Gish has been pushed back at least a week. To appease the dozens of eagerly awaiting fans, Chronic Logic has released a new gameplay trailer. The trailer and more game information can be found at http://www.chroniclogic.com/gish.htm. A new release date has tentatively been set for Thursday, April 29th 2004.

According to Chronic Logic’s co-founder, Alex Austin, "We've already poured hundreds into this project, and we're willing to spend as much as it takes to make this the best physics based side scrolling experience ever. If that means delaying the game two more weeks, we'll do it without any hesitation. If it means sinking another two hundred dollars into the project, we will do it. Also the delay is all Edmund’s fault"

When asked to corroborate Chronic Logic’s Josiah Pisciotta said, “Gish has been delayed, its really Edmund’s fault”. Edmund McMillen, the artist and designer on “project Gish” had no comment but had this to say, “I have no comment”.

9:24 pm - wooo wooooooo!
BAM BITCHES! im back from the GDC convention ... and I have to say that it was probably one of the most memorable and over all best experiences of my life. Though the big awards went out (of course) to the games with the biggest budgets (i.e., Savage and Puzzle pirates, both games that cost the team of developers over 1 million to make) but when it came to shear crowds of people waiting for their turn to play, Gish ruled the GDC.

Words cannot express how grateful I am for all support ive been getting and the many many opportunities that have arose over the past 3 days, things are really taking a turn id never expected, and I can truly say that I am very very excited with what the future may hold.

Here are a few pics of the crowds around our booth on the last day.

As of now Gish is still scheduled for an April 20th release world wide. Gish will still be published by Chronic logic and a demo/full version of the game will be downloadable on chroniclogic.com gishgame.com and a few other sites that ill post once the deals are finalized.

As far as console publishing goes, I can now finally say... "i cant really give out that much information at this point in time" you can come to your own conclusions about what that means, but I can tell you that Gish might just become a house hold name... just not in this country :)

Well, back to work, not only will this month be the final month to get Gish polished and ready to go, but me and D will also be moving out into a 2 bedroom apartment this month as well. Ill leave you with a few screen shots of Gish in all its glory, the only thing lacking graphics wise is particle effects, dust, water and maybe even some fog.

I haven't updated in a while, for obvious reasons. Gish is finally reaching the home stretch and the next 4 days will be filled with 16+ hour days of nonstop level design and badguy animation to get as much as we can done in time for GDC on the 24th.

For those of you who still don't understand, GDC is a big annual game developers event in San Jose California, one of the most popular events in GDC is IGF (Independent Games Festival) to put it into perspective, IGF is the sundance film festival of the gaming industry. In December Gish beat out over 100 other independent PC games (some of which were big budget games produced for the cartoon network and nickelodeon). Being one of the 10 finalists granted us a free booth at GDC to display our game to publishers, press and the game developer community for 3 days. On the 24th of this month after GDC there will be a ceremony where they hand out awards to the best games of the year. Along side those games they also announce the winners of IGF.

There are a few categories any of the 10 games can win: Tech. Excellence, Innovation in Visual Art, Innovation in Audio, Innovation in Game Design, Audience Award and of course the Grand Prize. All awards other then the grand prize pay out $1k and other small prizes, but the grand prize is for $15,000. Aside from those prizes this year AOL and the cartoon network will be handing out the Project Goldmaster award, an award that goes out to one of the 10 teams, the chosen team is then invited to design and develop an online game based on a cartoon network cartoon (can anyone say Aqua Teen Hunger Force :) ). Not only will that chosen team get an obvious amount of publicity, but to top it off AOL is including a Real world style look into the life of a game developer blog style which will be publicized on AOL till the game is complete.

No pressure eh :)

As of now, I just kinda feel numb, I'm kinda waiting for the walls to fall and the pressure to pour in, but the constant focus on making Gish pretty as hell is helping me keep my mind on other things for the time being, I just hope I don't shit myself in the interview with the cartoon network Wednesday morning.

Sooo, as of now Gish is at about 80-85%, the graphics have advanced extremely from the previous beta. Alex (my partner in crime) has programed in down right amazing colored lighting and shadow effects all real time and all physics based, that means if you knock against a hanging lamp the whole room will sway with realistic light as shadows are cast over all objects in your view. Think Splinter Cell meets Mario. It's crazy to think that no one has done a 2d game with all the newest tricks used in 3d games like specular lighting, fog, realistic physics and bump mapping.

Aside from the graphical enhancements, Gish's story is starting to unfold as levels develop. As you descend into the earth levels get darker, more moody and at times down right creepy. Exporting frame by frame animation is a bitch, but its been paying off. Last night we finally got our 1st full fledged bad guy in the mix, it's hard to explain how he works, in order to kill him you 1st need to break his neck, then remove the head from the body, but the fun doesn't end there...

We are currently pushing for an early April release date (I'm thinking around the 14th) for more info about Gish be sure to check out its official website at GISHGAME.COM.

Wish me luck

6:11 pm - CLUBBY DA SIZ-EAL
CLUBBY THE SEAL IS DONE! GO PLAY IT NOW!

Now on to GISH
All right im pretty sick of people asking me about GISH and referring to it as a FLASH game.Gish is not a flash game, its a one of a kind physics based platformer PC game that's being coded by Chronic Logic (the company to brought you bridge builder and tryptich).

In gish you take the role of a sticky ball of tar who girlfriend has been taken into the earth by an unknown assailant, and its your job to find her.

Gish is a 2d side scroll game much like Mario brothers, but with an original control based around the physical stricture of GISH's body.

Features:
A Twisted story mode with over 50 levels of play, secret side quests and tons of unlockabe material.
An original cast of demented baddies, ranging from piles of feces to brain dead priests.
Hectic boss battles.
Mulitple game modes
2 player Vs modes.
And much much more.

12:29 am - Fuck yes

Well, I did it. GISH is now a finalist in IGF 2004 (independent games festival) it beat out over 100 other games and now goes into the final round of judging starting the 19th of next month, so i gotta kick myself in the ass and get to work. im extremely excited and happy to get into the finals, the only thing im worried about is the press interviews... i tend to say inappropriate things. but if all goes well GISH could win from 1k-20k in cash and prizes not to mention major publicity. its a win win situation, and i have to say im very please with how everything is going.

Oh BTW i doubt GISH will slow down production of my flash games (clubby the seal, dead baby dress up and peashy) im also thinking about revamping thicker than water and continuing the story.

ill update with more character design pages soon

9:54 am - im going to hell... again
ok, im gunna sum this up as quickly as I can here, because this is the 3rd time ive tried to update then having my laptop crash on me right as I finish typing this.

Snack-o-lanturn

some of you might have seen this on NG, just a little flash i made with Et games in a few hours on Halloween.. as of now its really not that much to bite into game play wise... but I intend on bring it back to XXX life as "SNATCH-0-lanturn" in the coming weeks. Look out for it.

Dead Baby Forever (dead baby dress up 7)

This one is shaping up to be the best dress up of all time. as you can see by the pic, not only can you make a slew of combinations from Edward scissors hands to the big lebowski, but this time I also put the focus on over the top facial features and expressions that should bring your creations to life.

Clubby the Seal

Something i stumbled across while doing some test animations for a cute little seal character id been working on for an upcoming Chronic logic puzzle game. the test sprites were just too good to let go to waste, so clubby the seal was born. As clubby the seal, You embark on an adventure of revenge where you whack around seal clubbers then steal their skin to make into designer jeans and jackets... I wanna get it done before Christmas.. We shall see.

Gish

There isnt a day that goes by that im not in total awe on how great this game is getting, we are currently adding bad guys and interactive objects that will totally blow your mind... lots of talk about multiplay as well...

Cereus Peashy

Now the thing here is, peashy has been half done for a good 7 months now, and has pretty much been on hold because its such a time consuming project that if i wanna do it right i really need to finish the games im working on 1st before jumping back into it. as it looks now im seriously thinking about a total graphic makeover, ive come a long way in the last 7 months, and when i go back and play the old demo I cringe when I see the animation.

6 PEASHY? 3D 1st person design? Tactical based combat? RPG elements? say what? TBA

8:37 pm - WELTLING TEASER
This is a weltling,

Weltlings are a passive race of skinlings that
spend every minute of the day scavenging for
food and tending to their ever decaying body
structure. Without a constant supply of grubs the
weltling will die of exposure and become
eviscerated in a matter of seconds... this of
course makes the lives of weltlings, in a word..
Complicated.

These are Dumpling,

Dumplings are also a form of skinling found in the
golgotha badlands. Unlike weltlings dumplings can
live to a ripe old age, collecting fluids from
the pads of the hemocacti. but dumplings are
notorious gluttons and tend to gorge themselves
to the bursting point, in which many lose grip and
fall to their deaths.

This is a Peashy,

Cereus Peashy are the only peashy that appear in
the badlands, their cactus like skin is a perfect
adaptation to the weather. Though not a carnivore
the peashy are the weltlings most notorious
predator its not uncommon to come across a peashy
pulling off the limbs or disemboweling a weltling
in the wild for fun... but I mean you cant really
blame them, weltlings are fun to bash apart.

CARIOUS WELTLING COMING VERY SOON!

2:44 am - GISH BETA.. done and done
so at about 6:30am this morning the final update on Gish beta was finished and submitted to IGF. we didn't get to add all of what i had planned because of obvious time restraints but we didnt get to add 6 new levels and a whole new "mine shaft" environment even darker then the 1st. i have to say ive extremely happy with the outcome so far and cant wait to start adding bad guys and interactive environments, not to mention many many power ups and gishy abilities. here are a few screen shots and a beta title screen place holder.

posable weltling release this weekend?... me thinks so
stay tuned...
